Tavarura estate wrangle storm. . . Oldest son in US$230k fraud case

A Masvingo-based businessman is alleged to have misrepresented himself to an Estate agent as an executor and sold property worth US$230 200.

Godwin Tanda Tavaruva of Rhodene suburb, was reported to have approached Rawson Estate agent and misrepresented that he was the lawful executor of the late Tanda Tavaruva estate, who died in 2020.

Godwin is the oldest son of the late prominent Masvingo bus operator, Tanda Tavaruva, popularly known as Mhunga.

The Estate was registered at the Master of High Court and Jeremiah Matenhese, 61, was appointed as the executor of the Estate.

Rawson Estate agent, acting on the misrepresentation sold the properties; 58.8 Hectares of Erkesden Estate measuring 1 064.5 Hectares held under Deed of transfer number DT 16233/99, the property was sold for US$34 300. (b) 50 Hectares of Erkesden Estate for US$135 000 (c) 60.9 Hectares of Erkesden Estate for US$60 900.

The offence came to light when Jeremiah, based in Mutare visited Rawson offices in Harare.

That is when he was advised that the property was sold by Godwin. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.

“Police are investigating a fraud case involving a registered deceased Estate.

“The accused person is facing fraud charges for total amount of US$230 200,” said Insp Chakanza.
