ZIMBABWE international midfielder, Tatenda Tavengwa, said he is flattered by comparisons to Kaizer Chiefs legend, Reneilwe “Yeye” Letsholonyane.
But, the 25-year-old Venda Academy anchorman, insisted that he does not want to be simply a copy of him.
Dreadlocks, playing position, style and the ability to read the game is their common denominator.
The former CAPS United midfielder was the star of the Limpopo side in their 1-2 loss in the Nedbank Cup against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
Ahead of the encounter, Tavengwa had termed the fixture the highlight of his career.
And, like a real Warrior, he was a standout performer and his brilliance did not go unnoticed.
A huge section of Kaizer Chiefs, who wanted their fierce rivals, Orlando Pirates eliminated by the lower division side, are appealing to the club’s technical staff to get the Warriors man on board.
“It’s sad that we crashed out of the competition, we did gave our best.
“I’m really overwhelmed with the comparisons, it shows I’m moving in the right direction and being put in the same sentence with someone like Letsholonyane is something which I can’t take for granted.
“But, I want to do more so that people will not think that it’s just because I appear like him,” said Tavengwa.
He added.
“I’m very grateful to our supporters who pushed us to the limit because, without them, maybe, we could have been humiliated, we all know what Pirates can do on their own turf. We want to invest the same energy, which we showed against Pirates, in our remaining fixtures in the league.”
Tavengwa bullied the Baccaneers midfielders for the better part of the game. There are some Pirates fans who are tipping the club to make Tavengwa a Buccaneer.
