RISING Zimbabwean winger Tavonga Kuleya has been released by English club Doncaster Rovers, ending his stay with the League One-bound side after the 2024/25 season.

Kuleya(20), came through Doncaster’s youth ranks and signed professional terms in 2022 but struggled to break into the first team.

His departure was confirmed in the club’s retained list, alongside fellow young professionals Freddie Allen, Jack Degruchy, and Jack Goodman.

The speedy forward spent most of his senior stint gaining experience on loan at non-league sides Belper Town and Matlock Town, where he continued to build his game-time and development.

His release comes at a time when Doncaster are preparing for life in League One, having clinched promotion from League Two in the just-ended season.

Born in England to Zimbabwean parents, Kuleya remains eligible to represent Zimbabwe at international level, and has been mentioned as one to watch for the future.

While he now faces the task of finding a new club, the door remains open for national team involvement. His next move could prove pivotal for both his career and potential Warriors prospects.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s senior men’s national team, the Warriors, will travel to Morocco during the June international break for two friendlies against Burkina Faso on 6 June and Niger on 10 June.

“These matches present an important opportunity for Warriors head coach Michael Nees and his technical team to assess player readiness, test combinations, and build cohesion as the team continues its journey of growth and development on the international stage.

“Both Burkina Faso and Niger offer strong opposition, and these encounters will provide valuable competitive experience for our squad. Zifa, in collaboration with the technical team, remains committed to ensuring that the Warriors are well-prepared to represent the nation with pride and purpose.

“These friendlies are part of a broader strategy to give our national team regular high-level match exposure in anticipation of upcoming qualifiers and tournaments,” said the country’s football mother body in a statement.
