Bulawayo provincial magistrate Mr Sikhumbuzo Nyathi was told that on 23 December last year at about 11.30 pm, Tongai Chivanga was hired by the complainant, who was in the company of her friend from the corner of Main Street and 6th Avenue.
They wanted to be dropped off at the corner of Robert Mugabe Way and Leopold Takawira Avenue.
When they got to the destination, the complainant’s friend got out of the City Cab taxi and gave Chivanga $2 but he refused to take the amount, arguing that the fare was $3.
He drove off from the scene with the complainant against her will heading for Lobengula West suburb and when they got to Zimpost in Mpopoma, Chivanga told the complainant to drop off.
She looked for alternative transport to the city centre and a report was made to the police leading to Chivanga’s arrest.
Chivanga (31), of Block 2/470 Mpopoma Flats was not formally charged with kidnapping and was remanded in custody to 16 February.
Mr Masimba Saruwaka appeared for the State.
