Taxpayer appreciation day on the cards

in recognition of the critical role that taxation plays in the country’s economic development.
The day will act as a platform to profile revenue mobilisation as key factor for the development of the nation.

The launch of the taxpayer’s day will also coincide with the 10th anniversary for the revenue authority.
Zimra was established on September 1, 2001 following the amalgamation of the then Department of Taxes and the Department of Customs and Excise in what the Zimra Commissioner- General Mr

Gershem Pasi terms the “realisation of dreams and the ability to visualise things long before they are manifest”.
Zimra is borrowing the practice from the Rwanda Revenue Authority following Mr Pasi’s visit to Rwanda recently for this year’s celebration.
The Rwanda Revenue Authority’s 10th Taxpayer’s Day was celebrated on August 13 under the theme “Tax Compliance Dignifies a Nation”.

Essentially the day, which publicly honours and appreciates compliant taxpayers, also acts as a platform to exhort the nation to pay taxes for economic development. The event is a permanent feature on the Rwandese calendar and was this year officiated by Rwandese president Paul Kagame .
President Kagame emphasised the need for Rwandese to understand why they pay taxes and for the country to promote business growth in order to increase the tax base.

He also called upon all Rwandese to support RRA through good citizenship by complying with fiscal laws. The event was attended by high ranking government officials, private sector, taxpayers, commissioners-general from African revenue administrations and other stakeholders.
