Teacher breaches court order

A STUDENT teacher at a local college landed herself in trouble after she sent an insulting text message to her estranged husband, breaching a standing court order that barred her from doing so.

Norma Namanemi (31) pleaded guilty to breaching a court order that restrained her from contacting her estranged husband, Lovemore Mashingaidze with the intention of insulting him or causing violence.

The order was made after Mashingaidze had approached Mutare Civil Courts praying for protection, alleging that Namaneni was a violent woman who insulted him using vulgar text messages.

An order was granted in favour of Mashingaidze.

However, it seemed the contents of the court order fell on deaf ears as Namaneni continued with the insults.

She subsequently sent an insulting message to Mashingaidze the day she finished writing her final exams at the college late last month.

Mrs Sekai Chiundura presided over the matter, while Mr Douglas Matiure prosecuted.

It was the State’s case that Namaneni sent Mashingaidze a text message insulting him that he was a fool who had wasted his money by sending her to college because she did not love him anymore.

The sent message read: “Ndapedza kunyora, thanks nehudofo hwako hwekundibhadharira fees, waifunga kuti zvinoramba zvakadaro here? Plus ndakatotenga futi stand nemari yako iyoyo (I have finished writing my exams, thanks for being a fool and paying my school fees. I even bought a residential stand with your money),” said Matiure.

Namaneni was sentenced to two months imprisonment which were wholly suspended on condition of good behaviour.

However, she was fined $100, which is to be paid by July 13.
