A 43-YEAR-OLD teacher at Jingamvura Secondary School in Chiweshe has been jailed for 20 years for sexually abusing a 15-year-old male learner.
Itai Baradze appeared before Bindura Regional Magistrate, Sheila Nazombe, who imposed the full 20-year sentence without suspending any part of it.
In passing sentence, Nazombe said the learner fell ill following the abuse and developed rash on his genitalia, according to medical records.
In aggravation, prosecutor Edward Katsvairo said Baradze had been entrusted with the protection of the student but instead abused and humiliated him.
The court heard that the incident occurred on June 29 at around 8.30am.
The student was walking along a footpath to Jingamvura Clinic, where he intended to seek medical attention, when he met Baradze.
Baradze allegedly asked the student to accompany him to his house at the school, and the boy complied.
The court heard that Baradze then took him into his bedroom and showed him pornographic material before sexually abusing him.
Baradze allegedly threatened to assault the student if he disclosed the abuse.
The matter came to light on July 7 when the student told his mother about the incident, resulting in Baradze’s arrest.
