Teacher sexually assaults kids

A Zvishavane-based teacher stationed at Jeffrey Hooper Primary School is in the dock for allegedly indecently assaulting two female pupils on two different occasions.Washington Zulu (age not given) appeared before Zvishavane magistrate, Peter Madhibha facing two counts of indecent assault.

Zulu is accused of kissing and caressing his victims.

He was remanded out of custody to August 22  for continuation of trial.

It is the state’s case that in 2012 on a date unknown to the prosecutor, the teacher asked the complainant who is now 15-years old to come to his office.

He claimed he wanted to give her a Mighty Marker.

The complainant complied and went into the accused’s office where the teacher closed the door before touching the complainant’s shoulders and pushing her to a corner.

Zulu allegedly went on to kiss the complainant on the forehead. The pupil reported the matter to her grandmother who advised her to report the matter to the school authorities.

On the second count, the primary school teacher caressed a pupil who was aged thirteen at the time.

According to the state during the second term of last year the accused was invigilating the complainant and other pupils during the second term end of term examinations.

The other pupils finished writing and went out of the classroom leaving behind Zulu and the complainant behind since she had not finished writing the examination.

Zulu is alleged to have caressed her head and  touched her shoulder before telling the girl that he liked her.

The complainant stopped writing and handed over her answer sheet to the accused and reported the matter to two teachers at the same school.

A police report was made leading to his arrest.
