‘Teacher’ turns vendor in upkeep court

A Bulawayo woman staggered in shock after her alleged teacher boyfriend revealed that he was a vendor at the maintenance court. Sikhulekile Nyoni, who was under the impression that her boyfriend Ferdinand Dube was a teacher, demanded $105 for child support. Nyoni told the court that Dube was a teacher at Liberty Christian College.

“My son is four-months-old and I’ve never received any child support from my boyfriend,” she said.

Dube appeared before Magistrate Sithembiso Ncube and confessed that he sells fruits close to Liberty Christian College.

“I’m not a teacher. I can’t afford $105 monthly. I make an average of $150 a month from selling fruits and vegetables,” he said.

He offered $30 in child support and revealed to the court that he had a wife and a school going child.

“I’m married and have a child who is doing Grade Zero,” Dube told the court.

He appeared unfazed as he explained to the court that he deliberately lied that he was a teacher when he proposed love to Nyoni.

Nyoni received another shock when she found out that her boyfriend had lied to her about his marital status as well.

“I can’t believe he lied to me and that he has a family,” she said shaking her head in apparent disbelief.

Magistrate Ncube ordered Dube to pay $40 child support for his son.
