Teachers converge for leadership course

THE Zimbabwe Teachers’ Sports Association (ZTSA) will hold a Sports Leadership Common Core Course at the National Sports Stadium tomorrow.

ZTSA president Tapiwa Ndewere said the course, which is being held in conjunction with the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC), is meant to equip the association’s administrators with leadership skills and how district sports structures are managed and run.

“Right now we have over 50 teachers from around the country who have confirmed their participation. The main objective of this course is to equip teachers with necessary skills to run sports at school level. This is a very important course because every teacher is a sports administrator, as sports begin at school level. I therefore want to encourage teachers to come and be part of our first programme,” said Ndewere.

ZTSA was formed last month by teachers to establish an educator-oriented organisation whose thrust is to equip teachers with modern sports administration and coaching qualifications.

Ndewere said the association also aims to build team spirit through interface in recreation and sporting activities as well as fostering relationships among teachers while aligning them with the demands of the updated curriculum

He said the association has identified sport disciplines such as football, netball, chess, athletics, volleyball and table tennis as key in pushing their agenda.
