Teachers prepare for regional games

ZIMBABWE Teachers’ Association will next week hold their inter-provincial competition to select a team that will represent Zimbabwe at the Southern Africa Teachers’ Organisation Games in Zambia next month.The regional games which will feature among other countries Botswana, Swaziland, South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia and Zimbabwe are set for Livingstone from August 17-20.

In a telephone interview yesterday, Zimta information officer Daisy Zambuko said they were wrapping up their preparations with the inter-provincial finals in Masvingo on Heroes’ Day.

“At least 150 teachers from Zimbabwe will participate at the SATO Games and we will have Team Zimta after our inter-provincial finals on August 11. These regional games, besides being a sporting festival, are meant to provide teachers with a platform to interact and share notes on educational issues,” said Zambuko.

She said the SATO Games are held annually with Zimbabwe having played host to the regional teachers’ sports festival in 2011 whose finals were held at Belvedere Teachers’ College, Harare. Namibia played host to the 2012 edition with last year’s finals being held in Swaziland.

The disciplines that they will compete at in the finals are soccer, netball, volleyball, basketball, athletics and darts.
