Team Byo ready for YES games

SPORTS and Recreation Commission (SRC) Bulawayo Provincial Co-ordinator Sam Dzvimbu said the team which will represent Bulawayo at the Youth Education through Sport (YES) games will anticipate nothing but medals in all the three disciplines.

The games start on Friday and end on Tuesday in Hwange.

Team Bulawayo will participate in all the three sporting disciplines offered at the games with Magwegwe Stars representing in football, Mgoqo Primary will send a netball team; Mpumelelo will take up boysa�� volleyball with Eveline High school set to represent the City of Kings in girlsa�� volleyball.

In last yeara��s edition of the games, Team Bulawayo was second-best after the hosts Mashonaland West were overall victors.

Dzvimbu said preparations for the games were excellently done and have worked hard in making sure they come first this year.

a�?We excellently did our preparations mending all our mistakes so that we scoop the first position. We are hoping that at least in every category we get a medal and come back home with as many medals as we can,a�? he said.

a�?For the past two weeks we have been preparing and we are confident that we will represent and make our province proud,a�? said Dzvimbu

With a team of 68 athletes representing Bulawayo together with 15 technical officials in various sporting disciplines that include soccer, netball and volleyball team Bulawayo are confident to scoop the first position this year.

Apart from the sports skills development component, the YES Games are also aimed at imparting peer education to youths in the face of HIV and Aids as well as enhance youth participation in community development projects and participate in the planting the tree of the year.

a�?The national YES games are usually held during the first week of every December when they coincide with the National Tree Planting Day and teams plant the tree of the year which contributes to the overall marks of a team. We have covered the tree planning so that we wona��t lose marks on that,a�?Dzvimbo said

Success of a club at the YES Games is measured against its ability to excel in sporting activities, the cluba��s capacity or ability to impart peer education and participation in community development projects. All these are key areas that we judge when we come up with the overall winner.

The 17th edition will be held under the theme a�?Unethical practices, a barrier to youth development through sporta�?.

The Bulawayo team will depart for Hwange this Friday morning from Eveline High School. .
