Team Byo to leave for Mutare

TEAM Bulawayo is set to be given a resounding send-off for the 13th National Youth Games that begin in Mutare on Sunday. Minister of State for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Nomthandazo Eunice Moyo will be the guest of honour at the provincial squad’s send-off this afternoon at the Kumalo Hockey Stadium.Team Bulawayo communications officer Dave Simba urged city residents and the corporate sector to support the squad by attending the event in numbers.

“The Team Bulawayo send-off will be at Kumalo Hockey Stadium. We urge all residents of Bulawayo and the corporate world to come and support the young boys and girls as they are going there on our behalf,” said Simba.

“I believe they are going to do us proud and carry our name well and above all, I believe they will go there and emerge victors like they have always done over the years.”

The team is in camp and is leaving today for Mutare.

The team’s preparations have had no glitches and only Bulawayo and Matabeleland North have partially paid registration fees for the games.

The Bulawayo football team has been training at the grounds outside Barbourfields Stadium while the basketball team was using the Eveline High School courts, volleyball (Raylton Sports Club) and athletics (Masotsha High School).

In addition to the 10 provinces, Mozambique’s Manica Province will also take part as guests.

The provinces will also take part in a cultural and heritage exchange drive by showcasing the cultures of their provinces.

Selected athletes from some provinces will also visit the Chimoio mass grave in Mozambique as part of the cultural exchange initiative.
