Rural District Council following reports of financial abuse by senior officials.
The practice is reported to have prejudiced the RDC of hundreds of thousands of dollars
Masvingo provincial administrator, Mr Felix Chikovo, yesterday said a report on the findings was submitted to the Minister of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Ignatius Chombo.
The Minister appointed a special committee to investigate the RDC after auditors on a routine supervisory check noticed some “traces” of financial irregularities.
“There was indeed a probe that was carried out against the Chiredzi Rural District Council by a committee appointed by Minister Chombo after traces of financial irregularities were detected by auditors and the results of the probe have not yet been made public,” said Mr Chikovo.
He could not be drawn into revealing the amount of money the RDC lost.
“The report compiled by the probe team was forwarded to MinisterChombo and I cannot pre-empt the contents of the report by revealing the amount of money that the council might have been prejudiced of by the senior officials in question,” said Mr Chikovo.
Councillors are also being accused of allocating themselves some housing stands unprocedurally.
