ZIMBABWE is trotting into the spotlight and making waves as a team of young athletes heads to Algeria for the much-anticipated African School Games, set to run from 26 July to 5 August.
Representing the nation with flair, grace and grit will be a gallant equestrian team featuring Faith Downey, Jayne Rossiter, Jane Gifford and Terry Angelos. The quartet will dazzle in dressage, an elegant discipline often described as horse ballet, as well as in showjumping events. They are being prepped for greatness by coach Teede Anabelle.
Zimbabwe is also dipping its oars into beach rowing, with Paidamoyo Chamunorwa and Jason Moulder ready to take on Africa’s best. The dynamic duo is under the expert guidance of coach Ka Tommee, and are determined to row their way into the medals.
Leading the charge is the delegation head, chef de mission Newman Gomendo, backed by medical officer Thelma Musingwini and safeguarding officer Fortune Gezana.
In a statement released on Monday, the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) expressed high hopes for the squad.
“We are confident that our team will represent Zimbabwe with honor, making the nation proud, contributing significantly to the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie that defines African Schools,” said the ZOC.
With horses, oars, and hearts in the game, Zimbabwe’s young stars are ready to gallop and glide their way into the history books. Keep your eyes on the saddle and the shoreline — Team Zim is coming in hot.
