THE Team Zimbabwe athletes to represent the country at this year’s edition of the African Union Region Five Youth Games will be unveiled this morning at Prince Edward School.

Zimbabwe will host the Under-20 Games from December 4 to 14 in Bulawayo.

Eleven countries, Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Zambia, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique and the hosts, have confirmed their participation.

Team Zimbabwe will be made up of 290 athletes and officials drawn from nine sporting disciplines — athletics, athletics for the visually impaired, basketball, boxing, football, judo, netball, swimming and tennis.

Sports Commission corporate executive Tirivashe Nheweyembwa said they will also unveil the Brand Ambassadors for the Games.

“So far the preparations have been going on well although one would have hoped that more resources could have been made available, especially by the corporates.

“They need sponsorship but at this juncture only the government is supporting the team and we are grateful to them,” said Nheweyembwa.
