Teams relish Cup Tourney

ZIFA Southern Region teams are jostling for top eight finishes for a chance to play in the John Landa Nkomo Liquor Hub Super 8 Tournament in July.

The tournament is bankrolled by businessman and Zifa Southern Region Soccer League patron Raj Modi to the tune of $5 000 and is named after the late Vice President John Landa Nkomo.

Launched last month in Bulawayo in the presence of the Nkomo family headed by the late Vice- Presidentas son Jabulani, sponsor Modi and Zifa Southern Region representatives, the knockout tourney is eligible to teams that finish in the top eight of the league at the end of the first half of the season.

As the season enters Week Eight, the chance at financial gain in July appears to be the driving force for teams to pick up vital points.

A Bulawayo derby beckons when Highlanders sons Melusi Sibanda and Johannes Ngodzo clash as their respective teams Bosso 90 and Bantu Rovers meet at White City Stadium on Sunday.

Bosso 90, a youthful side that is not under pressure to win the league as they are being used as a feeder team to the Premiership side Highlanders, have started the league relatively well sitting on sixth position while Bantu Rovers are on third.

Bantu have made it clear that finishing top of the league is their first priority for a chance to return to the glamorous Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

Sunday:
Vic Falls Tigers vs Talen Vision ; Bosso 90 vs Bantu Rovers ;

Wednesday 01 June:
Black Boots vs ZRP Byo Province; Indlovu Iyanyathela vs Bosso 90; Makomo vs Casmyn
