EMERGING technologies, coupled with localised and global challenges affecting corporates, non-profit organisations and nations have made public relations practitioners even more important, placing them at the forefront, Zimbabwe Institute of Public Relations (ZIPR) president Thandolwenkosi Nkomo has said.
In a statement marking World Public Relations Day 2024, Nkomo highlighted that PR professionals continue to navigate this dynamic environment with creativity, strategic thinking, and a commitment to ethical practices.
Zimbabwe joined the global community on Tuesday to celebrate World Public Relations Day 2024.
This annual event recognizes and celebrates the field of public relations and communications, aiming to build a unified global agenda that fosters a deeper understanding and utilization of PR worldwide.
“This year’s theme, ‘The Future of Public Relations in a changing World’ resonates deeply as we witness the ever-evolving communications landscape.
“Emerging technologies amidst localised and global challenges affecting corporates, non-profit organisations and nations continue to put PR practitioners at the forefront of navigating this dynamic environment with creativity, strategic thinking, and a commitment to ethical practices.
“In Zimbabwe, PR practice continues to grow as government institutions, private sector enterprises and non-profit organisations increasingly embrace it as a core function in their structures and operations. In the long run, such investment will result in better key stakeholder engagement around strategic organisational and national goals as PR best practices permeate the Zimbabwean economy,” said Nkomo.
He adds: “This will undoubtedly lay a crucial role in strengthening strategic communication at national level in support of national development goals. Thus from promoting economic growth, tourism, national cohesion to building trust between organizations and their stakeholders, PR professionals become essential partners in achieving shared goals.”
Nkomo said the day also serves as an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and expertise of PR practitioners across the country.
“Through their commitment to excellence and high ethical standards, they continue to position PR as an integral part of organisational success.
“As we celebrate World Public Relations Day, ZIPR calls upon all organizations to recognize the value of effective communication strategies. By investing in strong PR practices, we can build trust, foster positive relationships, and shape a brighter future for Zimbabwe,” he said.
