A TEENAGER from St Peter’s village on the outskirts of Bulawayo has been arrested for hitting a man with a stone in a dispute over R1.

Prince Mkhosana, 18, was arrested on Saturday for striking Khawulani Nyathi, 22, with a stone on the mouth leaving his teeth shaking.

A bleeding Nyathi was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment and up to now he is struggling to eat.

Witnesses said the two argued over R1 at a bar in St Peters when Mkhosana suddenly picked up a stone and hit Nyathi.

The R1 at the centre of the dispute allegedly belonged to Nyathi and a misunderstanding arose as Mkhosana wanted to borrow it to buy a cigarette.

Bulawayo provincial spokesperson Assistant Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed Mkhosana’s arrest. He added that Nyathi was referred to hospital for treatment.

“We confirm that the juvenile was arrested following an argument which they had over R 1. The teen faces a charge of assault. We’ve referred the man to the hospital for treatment,” said Ass Insp Ncube.

Nyathi’s brother, Kholisani, said they called an ambulance which ferried Khawulani to Mpilo central Hospital.

“He is in pain. His front teeth were affected. He can’t even eat. We’re so worried that his front teeth will not be in their normal position again,” he said.
