POLICE have arrested a 16-year-old Beitbridge boy who broke into his 25-year-old stepmother’s bedroom and attempted to rape her. The incident occurred in Musane area under Chief Stauze last month and it is the second time the juvenile has attempted to rape someone. Beitbridge resident magistrate Gloria Takundwa yesterday sentenced the boy to moderate corporal punishment.
He will be administered with six strokes of a light cane at Beitbridge Prison as ordered by the magistrate.
Last year the teenager got away with a suspended sentence for attempting to rape a 10 year old girl in Driehook area.
Prosecuting, Nomathemba Sayi told the court that the accused and the complainant were staying together at one homestead as son and stepmother.
She said on June 30 at around 5PM, the accused sneaked into his stepmother’s bedroom and found her in her undergarments as she had just taken a bath.
“He pushed her to the ground, after which he attempted to have sexual intercourse with the complainant resulting in a scuffle,” said Sayi.
The court heard that the boy bit the woman’s right ear to prevent her from escaping, when he realised she was overpowering him.
The victim, Sayi said, managed to leave the room and alert neighbours, who apprehended the juvenile and took him to the police.
