Teen claims maintenance, criminality detected

A 17-year-old girl went to court yesterday claiming maintenance from her ex-lover for their four-month-old child.

Cynthia Ndaveni took the father of her child, Munyaradzi Nyakatira, to court, demanding that he takes care of the baby.

Nyakatira confirmed the agreement and magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini initially granted the order by consent. But, the magistrate then changed tone when she realised that the girl was 17.

“Why did you have sexual intercourse with a minor? This is a crime,” said the magistrate.

The two were then led into the magistrate’s office.
