AN 18-YEAR-OLD man from Magwegwe suburb in Bulawayo has dragged his father to the Maintenance Court demanding $115 per month for school fees, stationery and uniforms.
Calvin Chakuinga told the court that his father, Ovington Chakuinga, a taxi driver, must pay for him to pursue his studies.
“I’m a Form Four pupil at Luveve High School. I want $115 from my dad for my school fees, uniforms, food, rent and stationery. My father is a taxi driver and he earns about $400 per month. He can afford the amount,” said Calvin.
It was not clear why the teenager does not live with his father who resides in Gwabalanda suburb.
However, the magistrate dismissed the application and ordered Calvin to bring proof that he was a pupil at Luveve High School.
This was after Chakuinga had said his son was lying that he needed money to pay fees as he was expelled from school for stealing a bicycle.
“He also stole my money. He doesn’t even greet me. He shows no respect to my wife. My son has guts to exchange harsh words with my wife.
“I will only pay his fees if he proves that he is now attending school. I’ve proof from Luveve High School that he hasn’t been to school since the opening day,” he said.
Chakuinga tendered a letter from the school stating that Calvin had not attended school since schools opened last month.
