A Chipinge teenager was last week arraigned before the courts for allegedly stabbing a man to death over a beer dispute.
Hardlife Mapumisa (18) of Gumira Village under Chief Musikavanhu appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Mr Alfred Chinembiri, facing murder charges.
Mapumisa was not asked to plead, and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
He was remanded in custody to August 22 for routine remand.
Prosecuting, Mrs Delia Khatazile said on August 8, Mapumisa and his two unidentified friends were at Gumira Township drinking beer when he had a misunderstanding with Learnmore Simango-Ngezi (now late) over beer.
“While they were drinking beer, Mapumisa had a misunderstanding with Learnmore Simango-Ngezi over beer. The two wrestled and Mapumisa stabbed Simango-Ngezi once on the right side of the neck.
“Simango-Ngezi fell to the ground and was later ferried to St Peter’s Mission Hospital where he died the following morning.
“After committing the offence, Mapumisa fled from the scene and went home. He packed his clothes and rode his bicycle heading to Checheche Town. His intention was to flee to South Africa.
“However, Mapumisa was arrested after being trapped by police officers who were tracking him,” said Mrs Khatazile.
