An 18-YEAR-OLD man from Eastview has appeared before the Harare Regional Magistrates Court facing allegations of raping his five-year-old neighbour.

Nicholas Brendon Bumhira appeared before regional magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa charged with rape.

He was advised to approach the High Court for bail and was remanded to October 15.

The State alleges that on September 25, the complainant was playing at a neighbour’s house when Bumhira allegedly called her into the house.

It is alleged that Bumhira then raped the girl once before giving her an exercise book and instructing her to give it to her sister, claiming that he needed assistance with his homework.

The court heard that the girl subsequently returned home and told her mother what had allegedly happened.

Her mother then reported the matter to the police, leading to Bumhira’s arrest.
