TWO Bulawayo teenagers who went on an unauthorised joyride that ended in the death of a Zimpapers driver have pleaded guilty.

Melusi Nkomo (19) of Nketa 6 and Shelton Dube (19) of Nkulumane admitted in court that they took a client’s Toyota Hilux from their workplace without permission before being involved in the fatal accident.

Appearing before Western Commonage magistrate Archie Wochiwunga, the duo was convicted on their own plea of guilty to a charge of unauthorised borrowing or use of property. They were remanded in custody to Friday for sentencing.

The court heard that the crash, which happened on 2 August, claimed the life of Silas Bhunu, a Zimpapers driver who was on duty delivering newspapers when he was hit.

Prosecutor Audrey Kufandikanwe said the teenagers had taken the vehicle after hours from their Kelvin North workplace, leading to the late-night tragedy.
