Teen kills self over laptop

Theophilus Musapukira of Mucheke A in the town was found hanging in his bedroom by a police officer who was making a follow up after the boy had made a report to the police minutes earlier.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero said the teen’s body was taken to Masvingo General Hospital for a post-mortem. Insp Zhanero said preliminary investigations had ruled out foul play in the boy’s death.

“The body of the deceased was taken to Masvingo General Hospital for a post-mortem though preliminary investigations show that there was no foul play as all indications point to suicide,” he said.

On the fateful day, the boy allegedly woke up around midnight and discovered that his laptop had been stolen by an unknown person who had broken into his bedroom while he slept. He went to the nearby Chikato Police Station and reported the incident.

Police say he returned home after being told that a police officer would visit the house later to investigate.

Theophilus, whom police say failed to come to terms with the loss of his laptop, took an electric code and hanged himself in his bedroom. A police officer found Theophilus’ body after he had forcibly gained entry in the boy’s bedroom upon realising there was no response to his knocks on the door.
