A 14-year-old boy made a false kidnapping report to police following a dispute with his stepmother thinking he would assisted to go to his father in South Africa.

William Mapfumo lied to police that he had been kidnapped from South Africa and dumped in Domboshava, and he wanted to be reunited with his father.

After convincing police that he was indeed kidnapped from South Africa, one Sergeant Muronzi from ZRP Chinhamora took to social media narrating William’s story and his plight suddenly flooded platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp groups.

Sgt Muronzi’s post read:

“I have a boy here in Domboshava, Zimbabwe, by the name William Junior Mapfumo aged 14 years, who resides in the Western Cape, South Africa.

“He was kidnapped from South Africa and he managed to escape in Zimbabwe close to Domboshava and I am with him here.

“May you please forward this massage to all groups so that this boy can get assistance. He resides with his father, who is a lawyer in the Western Cape.”

It, however, later emerged that William actually stays in Domboshava with his stepmother.

“It seems he had a dispute with his stepmother and he made a false report to the police thinking they would help him travel to South Africa where his father is,” said a source.

The source said William’s stepmother was shocked when she was alerted about the police appeal.

“We had been looking for the boy everywhere until we were alerted by others that he was at the police station and was claiming to have been kidnapped.

“His stepmother went and collected him from the police station,” said the source.
