A 17-year-old girl, whose parents suspected she was being licked by invisible snakes following the peeling off of her skin, is recovering after getting medical help.

Nomsa Mundende is recovering from a rare skin condition known as exfoliate dermatitis.

“I am happy that I am recovering after dermatologist, Dr Donald Mutangadura, intervened to assist me. l appreciate that he gave me hope and l learnt to discard negative thoughts. I also realised that I am still the same person, irrespective of my condition known as exfoliate dermatitis. I now appreciate that social support is vital, it’s also known to alleviate stress and keeps one healthy,” she said.

Nomsa was connected with Dr Mutangadura by Pauline Mapuvire, who has also helped people with the same condition.

“Pauline is constantly giving me useful guidance. I am also grateful to Trinity Pharmacy for providing me with medication, which was beyond my reach.

“I encourage those suffering from rare skin diseases to break the constant stream of self-criticism.

Nomsa after treatment

“There is great change after Dr Mutangadura intervened, as I am no longer bedridden.

“I am constantly getting new information on how l should maintain my skin to avoid future skin complications.

“Currently I am looking for financial assistance since l have further blood tests needed,” said Nomsa.

Dr Mutangandura confirmed the condition.

“I am pleased to see Nomsa recovering. She is now better and I believe through medication she will be well.

“I strongly suspect her condition developed from dermatitis. There are some various medical tests that are supposed to be done so that l can continue to assist and monitor her condition,” he said.
