Thabo Sibanda from Thorngrove suburb in Bulawayo appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Archie Wochiwunga facing robbery charges. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to 23 July pending the production of a medical report for the complainant.
According to the State, represented by prosecutor Ms Audrey Kufandikanwe, the incident occurred on 4 July around 7 PM at Emakhandeni football pitch.
The complainant, 17-year-old Mkhaliphi Ndlovu, was walking across the pitch carrying a bucket of water when
Sibanda and an unidentified accomplice, who is still at large, approached him under the pretext of offering assistance.
“After walking a short distance, Sibanda produced a knife and stabbed Ndlovu on the left side of the neck before stealing his cellphone. The duo then fled the scene,” said Ms Kufandikanwe.
Ndlovu sustained a deep cut and was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
