A TSHOLOTSHO teenager has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his neighbour to death on Monday following a misunderstanding. Bhekisisa Ncube, 19, allegedly stabbed Mehleli Moyo, also 19, in his left groin with a knife at Gandisa Business Centre. Moyo was fatally attacked after accusing Ncube of peddling falsehoods against him in their community.

The officer commanding Police Lupane District, Chief Superintendent Johannes Govo, confirming the incident, bemoaned failure by community members to render assistance to save Moyo’s life as he bled to death.

“We received the report on the murder of a teenager although we feel there was negligence amongst the community members because they should’ve at least attempted to apply first aid to the now deceased rather than to watch him bleed to death,” said Chief Superintendent Govo.

“The fact that the community also watched and allowed the murderer the opportunity to come back to the deceased and get full opportunity to unplug his knife from the man’s body and then walk away is also so unbelievable.”

He said police officers on patrol managed to hunt down Ncube who was caught in a nearby village and has since been arrested.

Siphazamiso Nkomo, Moyo’s uncle said when he received news of the stabbing, he immediately dashed to the scene but found his relative already dead.

“In a few minutes I was at the scene only to find my nephew already dead. I really don’t understand what’s going on nowadays, people die easily,” said Nkomo.

“We’re greatly saddened by the loss of our boy, we just didn’t expect this. His father is in so much shock and is travelling from South Africa where he works. Burial arrangements haven’t yet been made.”

A witness who preferred anonymity said Moyo, who was now working in Plumtree, had just visited his family when he saw Ncube at the business centre.

“At first it sounded like he was just warning his neighbour about bad mouthing him in the community. He demanded an apology from Ncube,” said the witness.

“They started fighting and Ncube attempted to run away. When the deceased ran after him, the accused drew a knife from his trousers’ pockets, stabbing him once in the groin. We carried the injured boy into a store as he bled profusely. After a few minutes, Ncube came back for his knife which was still stuck in the now deceased’s groin. However, the boy bled and died before we could save him in any way.”
