A 14-year-old girl was crushed to death by a moving train in Victoria Falls Monday evening shortly after she had been found having sex with her boyfriend. A close relative who preferred anonymity said Brilliant Tshuma threw herself in front of a moving train around 7PM in Matetsi area along Victoria Falls-Bulawayo railway line.Yesterday afternoon the juvenile’s grandmother and some relatives were seen at the Victoria Falls Police Station giving their statements.
“The girl was caught having sexual intercourse with her boyfriend in the afternoon. She went home and when her grandmother indicated they needed to sit down and discuss the matter, she ran away from their homestead,” said the relative.
“The next thing we heard that she had thrown herself in front of a moving train.”
National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ), public relations manager, Fanuel Masikati confirmed the incident. He said NRZ was concerned about people who commit suicide along the railway line.
“This is sad for us. It is a cause for concern to us an organisation. We cannot keep on having people committing suicide on our railway lines,” said Masikati. “We understand this girl was seen around 7PM by the engine man running along the railway line. He even hooted at her but she remained on the railway line and was crushed to death.”
