VICTORY continues to elude Warriors’ defender Teenage Hadebe after his Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo suffered a third successive defeat.
Houston Dynamo FC looked to finally get back on their feet with points on the road at Rio Tinto Stadium against Real Salt Lake, but they conceded early and eventually lost 2-1.
A strong second half push gave many Dynamo fans hope that their side would get their first win since May 22, but an 88th minute goal by the home side dashed their hopes.
Hadebe’s side has now gone on a 13-game winless run, of which he has played six, and they find themselves languishing in 12th position in the Western Conference League with 18 points from 20 games.
It hasn’t been an easy debut for Hadebe, who has also had to deal with criticism from the media. A week ago, Spanish sports journalist Victor Araiza suggested that the MLS side rushed in signing the Warriors’ defender.
“May be early still, but I’m going to say extending Tim Parker and signing Teenage Hadebe wasn’t the way to go. Ted Segal jumped the gun on those moves just to have something to show for as his first orders of business,” Araiza tweeted.
Hadebe is expected to be part of the Warriors’ squad for World Cup qualifiers against South Africa at the National Sports Stadium next month.
Warriors coach Zdravko Logarušic has been given a blank cheque to call up players he wants for the qualifiers against South Africa and Ethiopia next month.
Some foreign-based stars failed to travel for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Botswana and Zambia in March after Fifa gave clubs the prerogative to choose whether to allow players to travel to Covid-19 pandemic-hit areas.
