MYSTERY surrounds the death of a 13-year-old Mutasa boy whose body was shockingly found hanging from a tree just outside their homestead last week, yet family members and neighbours had spent three days looking for him. Although police said they were treating the matter as suicide, Takudzwa Nyado’s parents believe that their child was murdered before being hanged on the tree in a bid to conceal the heinous crime.
The incident happened at Farm Number 59, Tsonzo Small-Scale Farmers under Matenganyika area. Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, confirmed the death of the teenager.
He said police were treating the case as suicide, but investigations were in progress to ascertain if there was any foul play. “Circumstances to the case are that on February 21, the deceased’s mother, Laina Msipa (34) went to a church service at Dombo Remushonga Village under Chief Mutasa. She left the boy at home doing some chores. She came back at around 7pm but failed to locate her son and told her husband, Talkmore Nyado (38) who works at Nyanga Pine Timbers.
“On February 23 they reported to the police about the missing boy. The following day the boy was found hanging from a tree about 200 metres from their homestead by villagers who had conducted a search for him,” said Insp Kakohwa.
The body was in an advanced state of decomposition and it was taken to Mutare Provincial Hospital for post mortem.
“Investigations are still in progress,” he said.
However the boy’s parents, relatives and neighbours are suspecting foul play.
They are arguing that after the boy was reported missing they went on a thorough search combing the whole area and they could not locate him.
Surprisingly, they said, his body was found hanging just outside their homestead two days later in an advanced state of decomposition, yet they had visited the same place during the search.
