Teenage robber forced entry into a house in Dangamvura high-density suburb most probably relying on his name to serve him from arrest. Prayer Marwa (17) appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura facing unlawful entry and attempted robbery charges.
Prosecuting, Mr Fletcher Karombe told the court that on March 3, Prayer broke into a house in Pegasus and attempted to rob Charity Deya (32).
“Prayer with an unknown tool forced open the door and went straight to Charity’s bedroom where she was fast asleep. He demanded money while holding a knife. Charity offered him a television set, but he refused.
“He went into other rooms and by the time he came back Charity was screaming for help.
“This alerted her neighbours who came to her rescue and arrested Prayer,” he said.
Prayer denied the charges.
He accused Charity of cooking up evidence against him.
Mrs Chiundura then put him in the custody of his brother, Patrick Marwa till March 15 for full trial.
