Teenagers fatally assault boy (10)

appeared in court facing murder charges.
The pair aged 16 and 17 from Makwezi Village under Chief Malisa allegedly assaulted and burnt Ashington Nyakai (10) with a tyre after accusing him of stealing money from their house.

They reportedly dumped his body in the bush.
The two brothers pleaded not guilty to the offence when they appeared before Gweru magistrate Mr Miyo Rubwe.
Mr Rubwe remanded them into their parents’ custody to October 25 on free bail.

Prosecutor Ms Nomanguni Mabasa alleges that on September 28 at around 3pm, the teenagers were at the house with the minor.
The teenagers allegedly accused the 10-year-old of stealing the US$10 but the latter denied the accusation.

They allegedly assaulted the boy before hitting him with a burning tyre all over the body.
He sustained injuries all over the body. Nyakai however, fell ill the following morning and eventually died.

The teenagers allegedly hid his body in one of the bedrooms and later carried it in a scotch-cart and dumped it.
A villager discovered the body and reported the matter to the police.

Police followed the scotch-cart tyre marks leading to the teenagers’ house and arrested them.
The body was taken to Kwekwe General Hospital for post-mortem.
