Teens to launch new exciting programme

A new organisation, Vision 25, founded by Tariro Kambasha (18) is set to change the face of television through a television programme for youths by youths. Airing this month on gospel channel Kingdom Embassy Television (KTV) and most probably three more, the show will bring real life issues to the floor.

“The programme is no ordinary one as it aims to take down issues that are preventing teens from realising their goals.

“So far, we have approached My TV Zimbabwe, ZBC and BosTv and they like our concept.

“That means by the beginning of the year, the programme might be airing on all four national radio stations in the country,” she said.

Kambasha also dished the scoop on what people can expect on the youthful programme where teens are certainly taking charge over issues that affect them.

She revealed that a true story about the abuse of a 14-year-old boy from Waterfalls was the major driving factor to the creation of the programme.

Only identified as Kumbirayi, the boy is now living positively with HIV after being sexually abused by his stepmother.

In an effort to help children in similar situations, Vision 25 is using its programme to create awareness on similar abuse issues.

“In a nutshell, the organisation is fighting through education to make the youths part of the solution.

“We have a pretty exciting concept where we will travel to different places around the country.

“We will then speak to the youths, especially teens, on some burning issues that have been swept under the carpet because of their sensitivity.

“Now they have to be unearthed and addressed since they are hindering youth development,” she said.

She added that the organisation will also discuss issues to do with how teens are affected by divorce, spiritual issues, drugs, dating and abuse while they feature guest presenters.

Well known artistes such as Pauline from Mafrique, Romeo Gasa, Trevor Dongo, Ngoni Mutswakatira and Jah Prayzah have already confirmed their participation as presenters to help in the fight to secure a future for youths.

Youths Tendai Kambasha, Fred Nyamapande and Simbarashe Murondoti will also be regular presenters of the show.

To ensure that teens do not just speak among themselves, parents, guardians and organisations’ representatives will be present to answer questions and give their version of the story.

“We are sure that at certain points in life you have always wondered why grown-ups don’t get you.

“Why they behave like they are from another world and why they put so much effort in ‘bringing you down’.

“Well, get the answers when they are put on the hot seat and grilled by the young people.

“We are hoping to bridge the gap between generations and make the world a better place.

“If the youths’ voices are heard then hopefully lives will be changed.

“By the time people reach 25, our vision is to have them straighten their lives and working towards building their lives in spite of past mistakes,” she said.

As the organisation grows, the team will also form Vision 25 clubs in teams.

Meanwhile, Vision 25 is appealing for sponsorship from different organisations so that they can finance their programmes as the year progresses.

Local church, Kingdom Embassy, has chipped in to assist with equipment for shooting the programmes until they are able to stand on their own.

The organisation’s personalised T-shirts are being sold for US$10 at Kingdom Embassy and later on at Childline Offices in Harare.

Proceeds from the sale will go towards charity.
