Bulawayo-based Gospel music group Tehillah Testament is set to record its latest project, Praise Covenant, during a live event at the Word of Life International Auditorium on September 26.
The recording will start at 2pm, with admission free. Organisers, however, said seating would be limited.
Rodney Sibanda, a representative of Tehillah Testament, said the project was inspired by the meaning of the group’s name, with “Tehillah” referring to praise in Hebrew and “Testament” linked to the idea of a covenant.
“Praise Covenant was birthed from our name Tehillah Testament. Tehillah is Hebrew for praise and a testament can be defined as a covenant, thus the Praise Covenant,” Sibanda said.
He said the project sought to present praise as an expression of a believer’s relationship with God rather than something reserved for favourable circumstances.
“A covenant speaks of commitment, relationship and faithfulness, and through this project we want to remind people that our praise is not only something we offer when things are going well. It is a lifestyle and a declaration of our trust in God,” he said.
Sibanda said the decision to make the event free was intended to ensure that finances did not prevent people from attending.
“We deliberately chose to make admission free because we did not want finances to become a barrier between people and this experience. Gospel music and worship should be accessible to everyone, young and old, those who can afford a ticket and those who cannot,” he said.
He said the live recording would also help the group create material that could reach audiences beyond Bulawayo and Zimbabwe.
“The live recording is also about building something that will continue beyond 26 September. We want to capture a sound and a message that can reach people beyond Bulawayo and beyond Zimbabwe,” Sibanda said.
The project is expected to combine live music with a worship setting, with the group hoping to bring people together through music and faith.
