STRUGGLING TelOne temporarily put their league woes aside yesterday to overcome Triangle and set up a much tougher Chibuku first-round date against holders Dynamos.
TelOne and Triangle battled to a goalless draw in regulation time, forcing the game to be decided via the penalty shoot-out lottery.
It was all nerves, tension and two red cards in a cagey encounter, but at the end of the proceedings, it was Saul Chaminuka, fresh from just securing a stay of execution, from his job, who was the happier of the coaches.
Chaminuka saw TeOne prevail through penalty conversions by Jerry Chipangura, Johannes Mambwe, Nqobizita Masuku, Blessing Matebeck, and Innocent Mucheneka.
Enoch Karembo, Aaron Dzangai, and Steven Zhogi scored for Triangle, but the Sugar Sugar Boys failed to convert the other two.
TelOne were dealt a blow when captain Frank Makarati was given his marching orders after receiving a second yellow card in the 78th minute.
Two minutes later, Triangle’s Kelvin Mangiza was not to be outdone as he was also sent for an early shower after picking up two yellow cards.
Both teams created what could be described as half-chances. However, in the 44th minute, TelOne FC had the best chance of the game after a shot by Mucheneka was cleared off the line by Malvin Mkolo, with the Triangle goalkeeper David Bizabani well beaten.
The under-pressure Chaminuka was naturally happy with the result.
