Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has been granted $20 000 bail by Harare magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guwuriro on charges of violating lockdown regulations after conducting a press conference at his Borrowdale residence on Thursday.

He is being charged with contravening Section 5 (3)(a) of the Public Health (Covid-19 Prevention, Containment and Treatment)(National Lockdown)(Consolidation and Amendment) Order of Statutory Instrument 200/2020 as read with Statutory Instrument 10 of 2021.

Prosecutors Charles Muchemwa and Constance Ngombengombe did not oppose bail.

However, Mliswa was ordered to surrender his passport, reside at his residence and visit Borrowdale Police Station once a week.

He was also barred from holding press conferences until the matter is finalised.

Mliswa will return to court for routine remand on March 4, 2021.
