THE Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has said a temporary traffic detour has been set up along the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls Road to allow for rehabilitation works on the Cross Jotsholo section.
In a statement, the Ministry said a five kilometre diversion will be opened to traffic on Friday, 15 August 2025.
“The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development wishes to inform the motoring public and all road users that traffic will be diverted to detour routes due to the ongoing Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road Rehabilitation and Upgrading Project (Cross Jotsholo Section).
“A 5 km detour will be opened to traffic on Friday, 15 August 2025, to facilitate smooth and safe rehabilitation works. This temporary diversion has been necessitated by the commencement of roadworks on the Cross Jotsholo section, ensuring the safety of both motorists and construction personnel while allowing progress on the upgrades,” read part of the statement.
The Ministry said a clear signage will be in place to guide motorists through the alternative route, while they regret any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this period.
The refurbishment of the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls Highway is an initiative that falls under the National Roads Rehabilitation Programme spearheaded by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, in line with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy.
Five reputable contractors have been awarded tenders to undertake the massive project.
These include Fossil Contracting, Masimba Construction, Syvern Investments, Bitumen Resources, and Tensor Systems.
