Mzilikazi turned into a battleground when a 29-year-old tenant allegedly unleashed a brutal attack on his elderly landlord using a knobkerrie.
Philelinkosi Gwebu appeared in the dock at Bulawayo Magistrates Court yesterday, facing assault charges after reportedly battering 76-year-old Dambisa Mafu.
Magistrate Steve Ramaboena remanded Gwebu in custody until 10 July 10 for trial, after he pleaded guilty.
Prosecutor Josephine Gurazhira told the court that on 1 July around 9PM. Mafu had asked for his rent money, as the month had just ended — but instead of paying up, Gwebu allegedly flew into a rage.
He’s said to have grabbed a knobkerrie and beat the old man all over his body, leaving him with injuries to his left leg and right hand.
A police report was swiftly filed, leading to Gwebu’s arrest.
Neighbours say Mafu screamed for help but no one dared intervene as Gwebu went wild.
