Tendai Chirara leads Chegutu Pirates late charge

CHEGUTU Pirates goalie, Tendai Chirara’s passion to get Dzinza promoted into the Castle Lager Premiership has got many believing that he is the future in his department.

It might be a little too late but Chegutu Pirates are within a striking range in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League sitting seven points off leaders Black Mambas with four matches remaining.

And, the exciting part is that Dzinza and Warumwa Warumwa still have unfinished business.

Black Mambas are set to travel to Pfupajena in what will be a farewell match to either side in this league.

Chirara has been Dzinza’s driving force in their intriguing attempt to book their PSL ticket managing 23 clean-sheets in 30 assignments.

This is remarkable for a 19-year-old who was rejected by Ngezi Platinum developmental side last season.

And, should the football gods allow Chegutu Pirates to dislodge Warumwa Warumwa, then Chirara will be the man to give all the flowers.

He has conceded just eight times in this campaign.

Gift Mwinga is the club’s leading goal scorer with six goals.

Panashe Mushonga has also made instant impact netting five times for Dzinza having joined from Legends Academy during the mid-season break.

Innocent Mangezi of Black Mambas has two clean sheets ahead of Chirara.

Chirara said he is surprised with how things have turned out this season.

“I’m really overwhelmed with how things have been going for me and importantly the club.

“Nobody gave us a chance to be where we are today but through commitment we have managed to get everyone’s attention.

“We are going to try to collect as many points as possible in our remaining fixtures and I believe we can win the championship,” he said.

He hailed the team’s coaches Rasday Gutu and Jonathan Magura for his form.

“We are thriving on team work, we are doing everything collectively and I want to salute our coaches who continue to emphasize the importance of team spirit.

“I’m targeting to win the Golden Glove that is my individual goal and with the help of my teammates it’s something within reach.

“We are going to apply the game by game approach in our remaining fixtures,” he said.
