Tendai, Selmor rope in Macheso

in February, the celebrity couple of Tendai Manatsa and Selma Mtukudzi is at it again.
The red-hot couple has enlisted the services of on-fire sungura musician Alick Macheso in transforming 7 Arts Theatre into a rare concert venue tomorrow.
Dubbed “Afro-Jazz and Sungura Concert” the show is just but the beginning of a series of shows the couple has booked at the same venue for the next six months.
Although they would not divulge their entire six-month programme they did reveal that after Macheso they would be inviting Oliver Mtukudzi and the Black Spirits as their next guest artiste.
“We have a six-month programme in which we would be inviting artistes to join us at the end of every month at 7 Arts for a concert,” said Green Manatsa, the manager of the band.
Green went on to say the band had decided to court Macheso because they believe that there are many fans of the sungura musician who love the artiste and his music but are unable to attend his shows at the venues where he performs.
“This is a concert and it will last just three hours, which makes it a-must-attend show because it is not everyday that people get to see Macheso and his band perform enough songs to thrill them in limited time. People are used to attend shows where the sungura musician plays until morning and one song can go on and on for up to 20 minutes. We are saying come and enjoy sungura and Afro-jazz, and go back home,” said Green.
Selma and Tendai plan to also invite Suluman Chimbetu, Tongai Moyo and Chiwoniso Maraire, among other music gurus in Zimbabwe to their monthly concerts that seem to be gathering steam.
Selma said: “There is a lot more to come from us and those few that are going to make it to the 7 Arts because of the limited space are going to have a time of their lives during the three hour performance.
“Doors open at 7pm but the concert commences at 8pm and for three hours the audience will have a non stop dose of music until 11pm.”
During the Valentine’s gig where Victor Kunonga and Alexio Kawara were guest artistes, Selma and Tendai recorded a live audio CD and DVD that are set to be released in the next few weeks.
The Afro-Jazz and sungura combination will not end with the 7 Arts gig, they are set to join Macheso for a show in Johannesburg, South Africa on April 2 at the Safari Hotel.
Elsewhere, Tanga WekwaSando heads back to his old haunt – the Mannenberg tonight with his latest album titled “Sunrise”. Catch the latest hits Mwoyo Chenai and Parudo among others.
