TENNYSON PRIMARY SCHOOL held its colourful annual speech and prize-giving day on Tuesday, honouring learners who defied challenges and excelled across all disciplines.

Moving under the theme “Follow the Light to Success”, the event was marked by outstanding achievements, renewed commitment to learning, and an inspiring call for learners to embrace the future.

In her address, school head Mrs Millicent Dhlula praised the dedication of staff members and learners, acknowledging their hard work and discipline.

“We believe in nurturing the whole child — academically, socially, morally and physically — as we strive to provide an inclusive environment where every learner is given the opportunity to shine in their own unique way,” she said.

Mrs Dhlula also applauded the excellence of learners not only in academics but also in extracurricular activities.
“To those who will receive prizes today, congratulations. But to those who did not make it, do not be discouraged because with hard work your moment will come,” she said.

The School Development Committee (SDC) vice-chairperson, Mr Mxolisi Hlabangana, thanked parents for their commitment to paying fees and attending school programmes throughout the year.

“The school has a very good record of fee payments, and it shows how much you value your children’s education,” he said.

Mr Hlabangana encouraged parents and teachers to continue supporting the school and producing excellent, bright students.

“Thank you for uplifting your children and the school. May you keep up the good work,” he said.
Gracing the event, Mrs Concillia Ngwenya from the Bulawayo Central Schools District commended the unity among stakeholders, describing Tennyson Primary School as “a school full of life.”

“As I was coming to the hall, I was greeted by beautiful greenery, and parents should be proud of themselves because without you there is no school. I have been analysing the performance of this school for the past three years, and I’m proud to say that your results keep going up each year,” she said.

Mrs Ngwenya then offered words of celebration and encouragement to learners whose hard work paid off, and to those who could not make it to the top 10, saying there is no time to relax as they must keep striving.

“To those who have finished writing their Grade Seven exams and excelled in their studies, keep doing these great wonders as you approach your high school period,” she said.

The celebration was capped by students receiving prizes for being top of their class academically and in sports.
Kimberly Moyo, who was the overall best in Grade One, as well as Minenhle Moyo (Grade two), Hope Ntali (Grade Three) and Lwandile Ndlovu (Grade five), were a testament that the school nurtures brilliance and intelligence.

Shantel Dube, a Grade Six learner, outshone them all as she received a floating trophy for being the overall best learner in academics, netball, basketball, drummies, karate, peer counselling and foot golf.

The event ended with thrilling entertainment from the Jikinya Dance Group, who performed a traditional hunting dance known as Chinyambera, alongside Khaya Arts.
