RENOVATIONS at the popular Terrace Bar in Bulawayo are complete after a change of ownership that saw music promoter Davison “Madamara” Ncube handing over the lease to businessman, Hayden Reid.
Reid took over last month after Madamara who has been battling diabetes for a while, fell ill. The spot located at Selbourne Hotel boasts of a semi open air drinking area, with a “train” seating arrangement hence its traditional name Terrace.
“We reopened the place a few weeks ago after refurbishments. It’d been run down, but because it used to be a popular drinking spot in Bulawayo for decades, it retained its traditional clientele, in the process getting new walk-in revellers,” said Reid.
Bulawayo nightlife is starved of live bands as DJs play at most outlets and Terrace management hope to reintroduce live entertainment to cater for the mature clientele.
“Bulawayo is a cultural melting point for musicians and other artists. However, because of limited venues – they (artistes) are hardly seen out there. I think that’s why we hardly get to know about legends such as the Cool Crooners having shows.
“There’s simply no gig guide for local talent and we want to take advantage of that,” said Reid whose bar has no cover charge.
The return of Terrace only means one thing – competition getting tougher for city bars. But for beer drinkers, this is good news as it will likely translate to better services and reduced beer prices.
“We’re new in the game and one way to win people over is through good customer care. We strive to make Terrace a place of choice and we won’t hesitate to have beer special promotions regularly.”
