KWEKWE Afro-jazz group, Terry and the Bliss launched its debut album at a well attended event and received a good reception from an appreciative crowd in Gweru on Saturday. The group captivated music lovers who thronged the venue from all corners of the City of Progress.
Delta Beverages sponsored the recording and launch of the album through its Chibuku brand, as part of the prize the group won at the Chibuku Road to Fame competition last year.
So flawless was the performance that even established artistes could have been left green with envy, as the group was a marvel to watch.
Lead vocalist and band leader Telson Migi’s ingenuity on the acoustic guitar and litheness on stage left many in awe.
The two backing vocalists were equally a pleasure to watch. The group’s performance on the night was filled with emotion, a perfect illustration of the music on the album, which takes one through an emotional roller coaster, particularly on the track Ndiregererewo and Chikwambo.
The song of the day was Huwori Huroyi, a track which discourages corruption, a cancer which has hit the country. The track was played twice due to public demand with fans gesturing at the police details at the show. The political leadership has in the past bemoaned the corruption by police.
Delta Beverages Sorghum Executive, Southern Region manager, Nyasha Denga applauded the group for coming up with a great album.
“The road to fame is a very long one and this is just the beginning and on behalf of Delta Beverages we wish you all the best,” he said.
Earlier in the day, a draw was conducted and a number of Chibuku imbibers won cash prizes ranging from US$1000 to $10 000 in the Chibuku Take Two national draw.
Sungura artiste Ronnie Mudindo provided entertainment and thrilled fans with renditions from the late sungura guru Tongai Moyo’s classic hits. Mudindo is a former Utakataka Express band member.
