A NUMBER of mourners have been sharing personal testimonies at the funeral of businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo.
Former boxing champion, Arifonso “Mosquito” Zvenyika, said Wicknell “ministered into my life at my weakest period and restored my marriage.”
He described the businessman as “blessed” and a “candidate of God’s grace.”
He said: “Other people might have negative views about Sir Wicknell Chivayo but to me he is a hero and deserves to be among those favoured and glorified by God,” he said.
“He gave me cash to meet the medical expenses of my wife at a time when I was at zero point.
“Besides giving me money, he blessed me with an Aqua vehicle which I used to run around taking my wife for medical attention.
“He ministered to my family in a special way that brought peace and joy into our hearts,” he said.
Zvenyika added:
“Anotaura zvakaipa pamusoro pake inyaya yekuti muporofita haakudzwe newekwake.
“Panguva yaJesu havasi vose vakasvinudzwa meso nekuporeswa.
“Saka kwandiri ini nemhuri yangu Chivayo raised us.”
Zvenyika also addressed death.
“God takes the spirit while the flesh returns to dust. Look at how most of the disciples died.
“Even John the Baptist, who cleared the way for Jesus Christ, was beheaded.
“Apostle Peter was crucified, Paul was murdered, James was dragged until he died, Stephen was stoned to death and John died without eyes.”
He added: “The rich man was ordered to give part of his wealth to the poor and, in the same vein, Chivayo has been giving to both us the poor and the rich.
“He shared his wealth and, by doing that, I will not be astonished to find him among those favoured by the Almighty,” he said.
Madzibaba Moses Gwasarira said he assisted Chivayo by advising him on some of the beneficiaries of the gifts he splashed among the white garment churches.
