PRINCE TAFIREMUTSA walked into the Chibuku Super Cup final looking ready for war.
Triangle United were throwing everything at Dynamos and he was the one shutting the door, one scramble after another, until the moment the entire stadium froze.
The ‘keeper, who had held Triangle at bay, went down and stayed down.
His final was over before half-time and a season already soaked in tension felt like it had found one last twist.
Dynamos clung to their 1-0 lead and marched out of Gibbo with a third straight Chibuku title.
Tafiremutsa watched from the bench, hurt but desperate for the trophy to find its way home.
“With the nature of the game, anything could have happened, it could have been worse. I thank God for the protection,” he said.
“It was a tough match, and everyone was focused on clinching that title.”
Early fears of a long lay-off have eased.
The big man is healing faster than expected and says he will be ready once pre-season comes around.
“I am now feeling much better and recovering well, though I still have some pain. Since it’s the off season, I am using this time to rest properly so I can recover quickly. By the time pre-season starts, I will be good to go.”
He added:
“It was a great feeling. I was part of that final, they didn’t win it without me because I also participated.
“I would like to thank my team mates, they did it for me and fought hard for me after I went out.
“Everyone who participated did their job well.”
No one in blue wants to talk much about the league season because it almost ended in disaster.
Dynamos survived on the final day and Tafiremutsa says that fear still sits with him.
“I wouldn’t want to be remembered as part of a sinking ship. For a big team like Dynamos, surviving relegation was crucial.
“I kept focused and worked hard to achieve that. It was not an easy journey, it was a tough period for the Dynamos family, especially the players.”
For now, he is breathing easier.
His team escaped the drop, the Cup is in the cabinet and the injury that threatened to steal his year has loosened its grip.
The fight goes on.
But Tafiremutsa has already won the first round.
