I have always wanted more from life.
When l was in Primary school l worked so hard to be at the first position in my class not just that l wanted to be on the top five of my grade.
I just wanted to be the best in everything l did.
I tried art but there was always some boy or the other being compared to me .
l tried academic quiz but wasn’t good at cramming answers so l quit.
I was trying to discover what l was really good at so that l wouldn’t be compared to anyone.
I recall on the Wild Life conservation day, l was tasked to present a banner and a short speech, we lost the competition, l know l messed up and concluded that speaking in public wasn’t my thing.
One day, a good day , one of my teachers approached me to join the debate and public speaking club.
I doubted my abilities.
In that team was a boy, he was a good speaker, l swear to God he was great.
I remember him on stage presenting the speech titled “necessity is the mother of invention”, his name was Bongekile Dube and he was my friend and class mate back then.
Shayne Shisha, Mitchell Ndlovu and l made up the debate team.
We were trained so well, l can say we were trainable. We made it to the finals. The day we went for the final competitions at some school, if l remember well it would be Coal Fields Primary, am certain we were scared to death.
The students from the other schools were either whites or coloured, it brought shivers. We were just pure blacks from the ghetto, it took us time to process good English and bring it to speech. Things worked like magic up there on the stage, we won. We got excited so was Mrs D. Moyo and the other stuff .
It wasn’t just because we took the trophy and the medals home but l then discovered my talent.
Public speaking was my thing and l had to quit my habit of jumping into conclusions. Then came high school, l didn’t want to miss the stage.
The morning Assembly , prize giving days and other special days, being a voice became my lot. My friends didn’t understand me,we just didn’t have same feathers. I have learnt to be who l am and let no one teach me who l am. When l went to college l got stressed, there was no more public speaking events. It was just the Tourism and hospitality Management course that l started. I got bored. I couldn’t be on stage anymore. I missed being myself. Then l thought that if l couldn’t speak then l could try writing and become sort of a ghost speaker. I found myself an awesome mentor Lucy Ruth and she groomed me into a desirable young author and l was published by ipublish House when l was seventeen. It felt so good.
Everyone shocked by my age and what l had achieved. I was proud of myself, parents were too . That gave me the strength to keep writing. I was happy to be featured in the herald news paper in February 2021 .That was a great achievement to me before l turned eighteen, l could see my whole life in from of me and that l have a whole life time to share. Now l make my paper and l bless my family.
I have decided to share my story with the world so that maybe it would be a motivation to all youths in what ever they want to be.
