IN yesterday’s edition of H-Metro we published a story which is playing out on the playgrounds of X, formerly Twitter, where an account under the name EXPLOREREYES ZIMBABWE is celebrating the incredible beauty of this country.
The person who runs the account, only known as Gary, is a white Zimbabwean.
He is making some very BOLD claims, including boasting that Zimbabwe is the world’s most beautiful country.
Gary even makes it clear that he will not stop making noise that there is no other place in the world like this country.
He has been posting a number of tweets this month showing the world Zimbabwe’s breathtaking beauty.
The tweets are accompanied by amazing photographs and videos of some of the most beautiful places in this country.
For instance, the pinned tweet is a Batonga woman while one of the most striking photographs is a small plane surrounded by lions, which are resting, in the Zambezi valley.
Gary argues in his tweets that there is nowhere else on Earth with the diversity and natural beauty like Zimbabwe. He is inviting all the people who are reading his tweets from around the world to come and experience all this natural magic.
He said Zimbabwe is a country where memories last a lifetime and an adventure to this country touches one’s soul and ignites one’s senses because it is a visit to a land of breathtaking beauty and unforgettable experiences.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a story about Zimbabwe without the beautiful Eastern Highlanders.
There is a tweet about West Nicholson district where a charter plane had to do a go-around because a rhino was literally welcoming the guests on the runway.
There is also a tweet about a wedding ceremony, which was conducted in the wild, and he says even the queens of the wild appeared to witness and approve.
What is very clear from Gary’s tweets is that he is a very patriotic Zimbabwean and, at a time when many have been condemning this country, it’s refreshing that we have people like Gary who are there to show the beautiful side of our country.
Someone who is simply there to tell the truth about the magic of this country and accompany it with some amazing still photographs and videos.
Gary didn’t even mention the Victoria Falls, our prime tourism destination, in his tweets this month.
Instead, he was selling the story that Zimbabwe is more than the Victoria Falls and it has many selling points as a tourist destination.
We need more people like Gary – patriotic Zimbabweans who do not see our country through the lenses of negativity.
Men and women who are ready to give the other side of the story – the amazing beauty of this country.
We have an amazing country and it’s our duty to tell the world our real story.
